Almost forgot! I have another Sunday Challenge today with the CrosSynergy Syndicate. I'm pretty pleased with how this one turned out, so I hope you enjoy it. An amusing but spoilery note about the puzzle is after the jump.

I mentioned the Tech Search Party in my last entry and said "I think I'm gonna like it." Unfortunately, while I liked the general idea and was happy to support a good cause, the execution in the clues was lacking enough that my team gave up well before the two-hour period had elapsed. My rundown is after the jump.

The Silicon Valley Puzzle Day was good fun. The talks all seemed to go really well, and people ate up the puzzles on Sunday. Eric Maddy continued to be a force at Pacific crossword tournaments, scooping the prize in that category. Brian Kulman won the sudoku competition (edging Maddy in the final). The rest of the winners can be found on the home page.
So after a week of, uh, whaddyacallit, work, it'll be time for the Tech Search Party here in San Francisco. I don't really know what to expect yet, but look at that description. I think I'm gonna like it.
Oh, and I might as well mention this while I'm here: I'll have the CrosSynergy Sunday Challenge on Super Bowl Sunday. I didn't realize that synchrony until I submitted the puzzle, but it does inadvertently contain a sly reference to the big game. So check that out before you settle in for football and fattening food. I can't wait.

It's a few weeks before the American Crossword Puzzle Tournament (I'm registered; are you?), which means it's time for the Silicon Valley Puzzle Day, an event that will actually take place over two days in Morgan Hill, California. Check out the program on that website; lot of good stuff in there. I'll be joining sudoku wizard Thomas Snyder for a session discussing tournament solving, and then a number of my fellow cruciverbalists for a forum on making crosswords. I'll then take the stage on my own to discuss the fine puzzles of nikoli.com. (Yes, I, a five-time crossword champion, will be talking about logic puzzles just before Wei-Hwa Huang, a World Puzzle Championship mainstay, will talk about cryptic crosswords. Go figure.) And don't forget about the crossword and sudoku tournaments, excellent training for the main event in Brooklyn next month. Check out this article for a look inside the event.
So whether it's workshops or competition you're after, come on over for some good fun. The Super Bowl isn't until next week, so what else do you have to do?

I have another CrosSynergy puzzle today. Have at it.
The big news today, though, is that my friend Shawn Kennedy has revived Puzzlement. Check out his daily teasers and meatier weekly puzzles.
Oh, and I know I haven't written a Mystery Hunt wrap-up, but I don't have too much to say. I'll reserve my few comments for when the solutions are posted.

First, though, a live link: I am once again the author of the latest CrosSynergy puzzle. Check it out if you're in the mood for a light solve.
Now, the dead link constitutes an update to yesterday's exciting item about the Wall Street Journal's new puzzles. While that URL currently generates an error, I am told it will contain the brilliant new Saturday puzzles when the time comes.
Oh, and while you're at it, Fireball Crosswords starts up soon. You won't want to miss them.
